About the role

Are you a recent University of Leicester graduate who wants to inspire the next generation of students?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and confident UK Student Recruitment and Widening Access Assistant (Graduate Internship) to join the Future Students Office. This exciting, outward‑facing role offers a unique opportunity to represent the University of Leicester, share your student experience, and play a vital part in widening access to higher education.

In this role, you will act as an authentic student voice and role model, travelling across the UK to schools, colleges and events to engage with young people aged from primary level up to 18. You will support recruitment and widening access priorities through face‑to‑face events, campus activity and digital engagement, while working closely with a wide range of internal and external partners.

This is a fixed‑term opportunity until 2 August 2027, offering excellent exposure to recruitment, outreach, marketing and higher education engagement. Extensive UK travel is required; all travel and expenses are covered, with TOIL available for additional hours worked.

This role is open only to students who have graduated from the University of Leicester within the last two years.

About you

We are looking for a motivated and organised recent graduate who is passionate about education, outreach and inspiring young people.

You will be a confident communicator who enjoys public speaking and engaging with diverse audiences, including prospective students, parents, teachers and advisers. Drawing on your own experiences as a University of Leicester student, you will be comfortable delivering talks on student life, applications, and higher education pathways.

You will bring strong organisational skills, the ability to manage a varied workload, and a proactive approach to working independently and as part of a team. Experience of working with young people and supporting events is essential, along with cultural awareness and sensitivity.

You will also have:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a friendly, professional approach
  • The ability to work flexibly, including travel and occasional non‑standard hours
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Experience as a University of Leicester ambassador, knowledge of the UK higher education system, or marketing experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

Above all, you will be an enthusiastic ambassador for the University of Leicester who is committed to inclusion, inspiration and making a positive impact.
