About the role

The University of Leicester is renowned for its world-changing research and high-quality, inspirational teaching.  Awarded a Gold rating in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), we achieved a top 30 performance in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework.  Our commitment to excellence has also been recognised through recent accolades, including being named the Daily Mail University of the Year 2025 and shortlisted for the Times Higher Education University of the Year in 2024. We are seeking an exceptional candidate for the position of Director of Marketing to lead the University of Leicester’s marketing activities and develop sector-leading campaigns that strengthen our brand and reputation locally, nationally and internationally. Reporting to the Director of External Relations, you will bring vision, drive and passion to shape and implement global marketing plans supporting student recruitment and research reputation, oversee the Citizens of Change brand, and lead the continued development of our website, digital channels, creative content, market insight and use of emerging technologies, including AI and automation.

An inspiring and credible leader, you will provide strategic and operational leadership to approximately 40 colleagues across Brand, Marketing and Digital Engagement, working closely with senior leaders and stakeholders throughout the University. Through evidence-led planning, strong performance measures and effective resource management, you will inspire a collaborative and entrepreneurial culture while ensuring that complex, high-profile projects deliver institutional impact and value for money.

About you

You will bring significant senior-level strategic marketing experience gained within a large and complex organisation, including experience of higher education and domestic and international student recruitment marketing. Educated to degree level or with equivalent experience, ideally supported by a CIM or CIPR qualification, you will have a strong record in integrated marketing, brand development, data-driven campaigns and the successful delivery of complex organisation-wide projects.
