About the role

As a Housekeeping Team Leader within the University’s Accommodation service, you will play a key role in ensuring consistently high standards of cleanliness, presentation and customer service across the residential estate. You will lead, supervise and deploy a team of Cleaners and Facilities Assistants, allocating daily activities, monitoring quality and responding to changing operational priorities.

You will support the delivery of agreed service levels, including those required within the Freemen’s Common Village framework, while ensuring that work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with University procedures. Responsibilities will include managing rotas, attendance, holidays, training, induction and performance, alongside maintaining accurate operational records.

The role also has an important compliance and health and safety focus, including adherence to risk assessments, COSHH requirements, safe working practices and incident procedures. Working closely with other Team Leaders, Accommodation colleagues and operational teams, you will help deliver an excellent residential experience for students, guests and visitors throughout the year

About you

You will have previous supervisory experience within a cleaning, housekeeping, facilities or similar operational environment, with the confidence to lead and motivate a team delivering a high-quality customer-focused service.

You will be organised, dependable and able to prioritise workloads, allocate tasks and respond effectively to changing operational demands. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will work closely with colleagues across Accommodation while supporting and providing clear direction to Cleaners and Facilities Assistants.

You will be comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider team, with a practical approach to problem-solving and maintaining service standards. You will understand the importance of health and safety, including risk assessments, COSHH requirements and safe working practices.

Basic IT skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Word, are required, alongside the ability to use online maintenance and operational systems. A full driving licence is essential. First aid, an ILM Level 2 qualification or relevant cleaning industry accreditation would be advantageous.
