About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Research Fellow to join our internationally recognised Cardiovascular Sciences team at the University of Leicester. This role presents an exciting opportunity to conduct impactful research into spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) and coronary artery dilations.

You will play a key role in managing and advancing a substantial patient cohort already registered through our SCAD research portal (scad.lcbru.le.ac.uk), overseeing consent, data collection, and coordination of clinical imaging, DNA, and biomarker studies. The project offers the opportunity to gain training in advanced clinical and vascular imaging, skin biopsy techniques, and contribute to high-impact publications and international presentations.

This post is suitable for doctors aiming to undertake a higher degree (MD/PhD) and includes light cardiology clinical duties to maintain clinical skills. You will benefit from close collaboration with experts at Glenfield Hospital, the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre, and international leaders in cardiovascular research.

About you

You are a medically qualified professional with full GMC registration, a license to practise, and MRCP or equivalent. You bring a strong interest in cardiovascular science and a commitment to research excellence. Previous cardiology experience (ST3 level or above), imaging expertise, or a current NTN in Cardiology would be advantageous.

You will be self-motivated, well-organised, and an effective communicator with strong team-working skills. A flexible and enthusiastic approach to learning and a desire to contribute meaningfully to patient-centred research are essential. You should also be eligible to register for a higher degree and committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical and research governance.

Additional information

Informal enquiries are welcome and should be made to Professor Dave Adlam, [email protected].

Applications for job share will be considered.

As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to professional development, this role will also be considered on a seconded basis for existing staff members. Please ensure this is discussed with your line manager prior to applying. More information regarding secondments can be found here
