About the role
Situated in the School of Psychology and Vision Sciences, the candidate will independently lead a mixed-methods, interdisciplinary research programme on the psychology of future-oriented decision making. The aim is to systematically investigate how people perceive the future and how these psychological judgements contribute to behavioural intentions and planning for future threats including antibiotic resistance and climate change. The applicant is expected to design and deliver quantitative and qualitative research studies that investigate factors such as personality, language and culture, which may shape judgements of psychological distance from the future. Additionally, they will apply these insights to inform real-life decision making about future existential threats such as antibiotic resistance and climate change. The candidate is expected to publish research outputs which are assessed as internationally and world leading research as per the University Output Review Policy. Additionally, the leverage of research impact beyond academic peer-reviewed publications will be encouraged.

This is an exciting opportunity to expand a growing research profile in judgement and decision-making research and become a research leader in the field. Significant levels of independence will allow the candidate to take initiative in the research programme and develop as a thought leader in research. Working within a small research team at the University of Leicester and contributing to the Health & Wellbeing (with Ageing) Research Group and the Judgement and Decision Making Group, the applicant is expected to grow a relevant network and disseminate research as appropriate. A generous conference and training budget will allow the candidate to expand their existing skill set and strengthen the academic profile
