About the role
The University of Leicester is looking for a highly motivated and qualified Solicitor to join the team at Leicester Law School. This role plays a pivotal part in delivering pro bono legal services through the university's Legal Advice Clinic, where you will oversee case management and supervise law students as they provide assistance to clients. A key aspect of the role is to ensure that students receive high-quality legal education and practical experience while maintaining a high standard of legal advice for clinic clients. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to teaching on the undergraduate Law in Practice: Legal Advice Clinic and Law in Practice: Pro Bono modules and support several pro bono projects.

As part of your responsibilities, you will work closely with the Clinic Director to supervise legal advice, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and carrying out risk assessments as needed. You will play a critical role in managing students' Qualifying Law Experience (QLE) for the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). Additionally, you will help develop the clinic’s strategy, working with the Pro Bono Society Committee to expand its services, meet community needs, and cater to student demand. The role also involves building strong relationships with legal professionals, employers, and external organisations to support the clinic’s work. Alongside these duties, you will help to oversee the training and support of both students and professional volunteers, ensuring a consistent and effective delivery of services. Data collection, reporting, and involvement in the clinic's development are also key components of this position.

About you
We are seeking a qualified solicitor with post-qualification experience. You will bring to this role your expertise in advising clients and working collaboratively within a team to achieve common objectives. An understanding of the legal advice sector and regulatory requirements, especially in relation to the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE), is crucial. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing legal casework and an ability to support the professional growth of students through their involvement in the Legal Advice Clinic.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, as you will be required to provide training, deliver presentations, and produce reports. Strong organisational skills are also key to managing a varied and demanding workload while meeting tight deadlines. You should have a passion for working with students and be committed to delivering a high-quality service that meets the needs of both clients and students. Familiarity with IT systems, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, is necessary for this role. Experience in clinical legal education and areas such as employment, housing, family, business or immigration law would be beneficial, as would experience in fundraising or sponsorship. The ability to approach challenges with flexibility and a solutions-oriented mindset will ensure success.
