About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Associate Professor (Clinical) in Forensic Pathology / Honorary Consultant to join the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit, within the College of Life Sciences at the University of Leicester.

As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality forensic pathology services to police forces and coronial jurisdictions, as well as contributing to the education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Your teaching will focus on forensic pathology and related areas of law and medicine, preparing students for clinical and investigative work. You will also supervise and assess medical students and postgraduate research projects, contributing to the development of future forensic pathologists.

In this role, you will participate in the rota for investigating sudden and suspicious deaths, alongside delivering lectures, clinical teaching, and overseeing autopsies for both training and service purposes. You will also engage in research, contributing to the Unit’s active research programme, and lead knowledge exchange initiatives in forensic pathology.

About you

You should be a fully accredited medical practitioner with GMC registration and a licence to practice. You must have completed higher specialist training in forensic pathology and either be on, or eligible for inclusion on, the Specialist Register for Forensic Histopathology within six months of the interview date. FRCPath (Forensic) or equivalent is required, along with eligibility for inclusion on the Home Office list of approved forensic pathologists.

We are looking for someone with a strong commitment to education, demonstrated through experience in teaching and supervising students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. You should have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively present complex information to diverse audiences. Experience in autopsy techniques, forensic imaging, and clinical audit, alongside a willingness to contribute to service and academic development, is highly desirable.

If you are passionate about forensic pathology and education, and ready to contribute to a leading academic and clinical unit, we encourage you to apply for this prestigious opportunity at the University of Leicester.
