About the role

With around 4,000 staff and more than 20,000 students representing 115 nationalities, the University of Leicester is a successful teaching academic and research establishment. Our staff work across three colleges and professional service areas. The university is currently undergoing an ambitious building and refurbishment program which includes both minor and major projects.

As our Health and Safety Business Partner, Asset Management and Compliance you will be supporting the senior leadership teams to assist them is discharging their Health and Safety obligations. You will ensure the University's Health and Safety Strategy is supported and implemented across the  Estates and Campus services teams You will be responsible for managing the relationships of key stakeholders – in-house staff, consultants, contractors and sub-contractors.

The role gives you the opportunity to shape and manage the health and safety responsibilities of our projects team, ensure our platform for managing compliance in the asset management area (in its widest form) is robust and embedded and that the behaviours of all staff are reflective of our vision of being the best in the industry.

You will be responsible for:
  • Liaising with key stakeholders within the Estates & Campus Services division in order to ensure health and safety standards are  being met and improved where required
  • Engaging in consultation with key stakeholders (through the medium of health and safety committee and forum meetings)
  • Acting as a champion for health and safety and assisting the Director of Health & Safety in the roll out of the University health and safety improvement plan
  • Supporting the Estates senior leadership team in driving a culture of positive change
  • Engaging and working collaboratively with trade union representatives where required
  • Delivering health and safety training
  • Providing health and safety coaching to members of the Estates team to support development as necessary
  • Carrying out reactive and proactive monitoring in the relevant Estates and Campus Services areas of activity
  • Collaborating with other Safety Services colleagues in order to achieve a common goal
About you

You will have significant experience in working within the built environment and a track record of delivering Health and Safety change and development in management services. Being a Chartered Member of IOSH is essential and you should also hold a level 6 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or actively working towards that within 6-12 months following appointment. This is an absolute pre-requisite for the role.

The successful candidate will be highly customer focused, understand the institutional goals and have the ability to deliver upon them. You will be an agent of change.
