About the role
With around 4,000 staff and more than 20,000 students representing 115 nationalities, the University of Leicester is a successful teaching academic and research establishment. Our staff work across three colleges and professional service areas. The university is currently undergoing an ambitious building and refurbishment program which includes both minor and major projects.

As our Health and Safety Business Partner, (projects and planning) you will be supporting the senior leadership teams to assist them is discharging their Health and Safety obligations. You will ensure the University's Health and Safety Strategy is supported and implemented across the projects we are undertaking. (both Major and Minor projects). You will be responsible for managing the relationships of key stakeholders – in-house staff, consultants, contractors and sub-contractors.

The expectation will be that you will have a comprehensive knowledge of the Construction Design and Management Regulations and the roles of the Duty Holders within. You will also be experienced in developing or scrutinising Pre Construction phase plans, Health and Safety Files and critically examining the role / outputs of Principal Designers working on our major projects. This to provide assurances that the University is both complying with legislative requirements and at the same time demonstrating a market leading approach. The role gives you the opportunity to shape and manage the health and safety responsibilities of our projects team, ensure our platform for managing projects is robust and embedded and that the behaviours of all staff are reflective of our vision of being the best in the industry.

About you

You will be responsible for monitoring contractor performance on site and, using best practice solutions, identify any issues requiring action and ensure these are effectively completed.

You will have significant experience in working within the built environment and a track record of delivering Health and Safety change and development in management services. Being a Chartered Member of IOSH is essential and you should also hold a level 6 qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or actively working towards that within 6-12 months following appointment. This is an absolute pre-requisite for the role.
The successful candidate will be highly customer focused, understand the institutional goals and have the ability to deliver upon them. You will be an agent of change.
