About the role

In this role you will be responsible for the smooth, efficient and secure operation of all key Linux &Web services provided by IT Services and to participate in projects to introduce or change services. You will apply modern automation tools to service management, developing scripted and human processes and improving and maintaining documentation to meet operational requirements and support service delivery. The primary focus of this role is to support and management of Linux services both on an on-going basis and in response to user requests.

The IT Operations team is responsible for managing, maintaining and optimising technical elements of all live IT Services including the database platform and application software used by all staff and students. This role ensures that services running on the Linux platform are maintained, secure, resilient and supported as indicated in supplier contracts

You will supports projects, ensuring that new applications software are transitioned into operation in a smooth and supportable fashion. This role also monitors and ensures that the software provides the advertised capacity and availability characteristics, assisting in providing management information for these characteristics, and planning and delivering enhancements and remediation where appropriate.

About you
With relevant experience of systems administration, you will also have experience of working in a complex IT service in a large organisation. A significant understanding of Linux is key, including operating system fundamentals. You will be motivated by finding solutions to complex issues, with strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
