About the role
We are looking for a talented, motivated individual to join the Biostatistics Research Group to lead a programme of methodological development research funded by the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) Data Innovation for multiple long term conditions and ethnic health theme.

 The Biostatistics Research Group within the Department of Population Health Sciences specialises in the development, application and teaching of statistical methods in medical research with the ultimate aim of improving the health of the population. A particular strength of the group is the transferral of novel statistical methodology into practice through the development of software, use of novel methods in applied studies through collaboration with both internal and external clinicians, development of guidelines for policy-makers and teaching on specialist courses.

We are looking for an excellent experienced researcher with a growing reputation in their field, who wants to lead a programme of research in methodological development in an area which aligns to the NIHR Leicester BRC objectives and the research interests of the Biostatistics Research Group, which could include one or more of:

• Experimental research design, including novel adaptive designs and early phase studies
• Prognostic modelling
• Evidence synthesis of experimental studies to inform latter phase studies and/or personalised medicine  
• Health data science
• Optimising the use of real world data.

The post-holder will independently work on their own tasks and goals, whilst also establishing collaborations both within the Biostatistics Research Group and across the BRC. They will be accountable for the design, delivery and quality of a programme of research aligned to the BRC. The NIHR Leicester BRC is a partnership between the University of Leicester, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, Loughborough University and the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire NHS Group. It has been funded £26.1 million from December 2022 to November 2027 to carry out pioneering research into medical advancements into illnesses linked to respiratory diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and type 2 diabetes, chronic kidney disease and the consequences of inactivity will continue to push boundaries of knowledge in clinical medicine. Three new speciality areas have joined the NIHR Leicester BRC for the first time: Personalised cancer prevention and treatment, Environment – looking at how the environment impacts on long term health conditions - and Using data to better understand multiple long term health conditions and factors specific to the health of ethnic minority populations. In addition, the respiratory speciality is joined by experts in infectious diseases. 

Our overall purpose is to translate scientific breakthroughs in these areas into diagnostic tests, preventions and life-saving treatments for our patients. We do this by creating a collaborative workspace that allows scientists and clinicians to share their findings and deliver research that is relevant to both patients and the professionals who treat them.  
About you
You will have a PhD or significant equivalent experience in medical statistics, as well as an emerging research profile in statistical methodology (respected nationally). You will have expertise and a proposed programme of research which aligns to the needs of the NIHR Leicester BRC. We are looking for someone with evidence of successful collaboration with external partners as well as a proven track record of delivering quality research on time.

The ideal candidate will have proven analytical and technical problem-solving skills alongside the ability to manage and deliver collaborative based research projects. Commitment to Personal Professional Development in subject expertise is also significant. We would like to see evidence of working effectively both independently and as part of a team, building relationships with stakeholders and demonstrable excellent communication skills.
