About the role

The Midlands Innovation university partnership has launched a connected technology transfer system across the partner institutions. MICRA will become a single gateway to the collective intellectual property (IP) resources from the eight Midlands Innovation universities. We have an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded professional to join an emerging team working within the partnership (Aston, Birmingham, Cranfield, Keele, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Warwick).

The post offers the potential to learn from and implement best practice across the partnership. You will generate new ways of working through being exposed to a wide range of varied IP translation projects.

The post is funded by Research England under the Connecting Capabilities Fund (CCF) scheme and Midlands Innovation Commercialisation Research Accelerator (MICRA) project is managed by University of Birmingham on behalf of the Midland Innovation (MI) universities.

Although employed and line-managed by the University of Leicester, the postholder will be overseen by a Project Manager and operate as a collective across the 8 university sites.


About you

The post holder will have specific responsibility for the operation of the MICRA project at the University of Leicester. You will work alongside the MICRA team and the Technology Transfer team based in Leicester, as well as colleagues in the Research Enterprise Division and academic staff. Contributing to the development of an effective partnership platform for Technology Commercialisation across the Midlands and developing an effective route to market for Leicester’s IP.

Drawing on your ability to assess and develop technology opportunities you will be commercially aware and be motivated by successful outcomes.  A self-starter, you are able to work with a high level of autonomy and proactivity. You will have demonstrated the ability to maintain and develop a large number of complex projects and professional networks.  

You will possessed highly developed influencing and networking skills with the attention to detail required to review complex legal, IP and financial information.

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) ideally in a Physical or Biological Sciences related subject or industry experience in Bio-Tech/Pharma.
