About the role

The Centre for International Training and Education (CITE) comprises the English Language Teaching Unit, the Study Abroad Unit, the International Professional Development Unit, and the Sanctuary Seekers’ Unit. It plays a key role in supporting international students and preparing them for study at the University of Leicester, as well providing a growing range of opportunities related to international education.

The English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) of the University of Leicester is regarded as one of the leading departments of its kind in the UK. Founded in the late 1980s, it offers an increasing range of courses and services, including pre-sessional and in-sessional programmes, credit bearing modules for exchange and Study Abroad students, short courses, teacher training and professional development. The ELTU provides teaching and support for thousands of international students and professionals each year, from a growing number of countries.

In the role, you will lead on and develop the administrative function and process of the ELTU, ensuring efficient systems are in place and the guidelines are developed and stored. You will provide team leadership administrative support for a portfolio of courses, involving activities such as student recruitment and registration, maintenance of student records, communications guidance and policy, event and resource planning, supporting Course Directors and assignment handling. It is expected that the successful candidate will initially take responsibility for administration team leadership of the presessional and insessional English programmes.

About you

You will have excellent administration skills and be pro-active in your approach to your workload. The role requires you to be extremely organised, have meticulous attention to detail and a high level of communication skills. You will be able to build relationships, both within CITE with teaching and administration staff alike, and across the university in departments such as the Future Student Office, Student Services, Student Records, and Fees and Income.

You will thrive in providing first class customer service, acting as a point of contact for current and prospective international students, providing a high level of support and displaying strong cultural awareness. Although able to work independently, you will also enjoy being a key member of a team and will be able to show flexibility in supporting colleagues’ activities.

Due to the seasonal nature of the ELTU’s activity, the post holder will be expected to work throughout the summer months. It is also expected that the post holder will undertake occasional work outside office hours.
