About the role
In this role you will be expected primarily to undertake teaching and academic administration activities across the Geology programmes. Teaching will be to all years and within the fields of mineral deposits, evaluation and exploration, natural resources, ore genesis, and environmental geoscience modules. You will also be expected to contribute to tutorials, field courses, supervision and assessment of field-based mapping projects and dissertations. You will support the work of the School, including through outreach and recruitment activities that develop and enhance its internal and external reputation. There will be opportunity to undertake research as part of ongoing funded NERC grants (including TeaSe and FAMOS) and upcoming research projects.
Mineral Resources research is one of the fastest growing and dynamic areas in the School, having recently attracted a number of multi-million pound research grants. This internationally-recognised research is focused around the exploration for, and environmentally responsible extraction of, metalliferous ore deposits, with a growing focus on those resources required for a low carbon future. This includes world leading research on magmatic ore deposits and revolutionary new concepts for ore processing.
About you
With a PhD in a relevant discipline, you will have experience of teaching undergraduate geology or environmental geoscience to undergraduate students in university based lectures, practical and in the field. Competency in the use of software relevant to teaching and research applied and environmental geology is key. You will have a passion for the subject matter, ensuring our students have the best experience possible.
