About the role

Join the Department of Respiratory SciencesYou will project manage and oversee all aspects of the successful delivery of the UK-REACH Study: United Kingdom Research Study into Ethnicity and COVID-19 outcomes in Healthcare workers’. UK-REACH is a DHSC/UKRI rapid research mixed-methods study with the aim of investigating, if, how and why, ethnicity affects COVID-19 clinical outcomes in Healthcare workers.

You will work closely with Professor Manish Pareek, UK-REACH Chief Investigator to oversee and assist with the delivery of six interlinked work packages. You will be responsible for identifying, establishing and running project management structures to oversee and manage research deliverables. You will provide administrative support to ensure that meetings are arranged and that research activities are carried out smoothly with milestones in research progress achieved and reported on. You will also be required to carry out the drafting of documents for the research team, the writing of reports, and assist in editing and preparing manuscripts for publication.

The UK-REACH Study sits within the University of Leicester’s Department of Respiratory Sciences. This will provide an opportunity to understand and reflect on project management approaches across different projects and stakeholders in a supportive environment, and to engage with Health Data Research UK (HDR UK). UK REACH investigators are also embedded in the BREATHE Digital Innovation Hub for respiratory health and in the Midlands Site of HDR UK. The systems for recruitment and management of participation in the UK-REACH Study will utilise tried and tested systems utilised in the EXCEED study. The postholder will be expected to understand the systems used in both projects, and to apply learning across projects.

The HDR UK Digital Innovation Hub Programme (DIH) aims to enable a UK-wide life sciences ecosystem that provides responsible and safe access to health data, technology and science, and provides research and innovation services to help answer important health and care questions for patients, the NHS, charities, industry, academic researchers and innovators.

BREATHE, the Health Data Research UK Hub for respiratory health will create Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) respiratory rich datasets, providing expert support to catalyse their responsible use in respiratory research and innovation. Once established the Hub will offer a ‘one-stop’ service for trustworthy, multi-stakeholder utilisation of curated data for public, private and third sector benefit. Its remit includes responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

BREATHE involves multiple Universities including Edinburgh, Imperial College, Leicester, Nottingham and Swansea and you may be required to travel to other UK centres.

About you
The post requires an experienced, self-motivated individual with excellent organisational and communication skills to oversee the completion of five interlinked project work packages. You will work closely with study stakeholders and co-investigators providing administrative and project support to ensure that study activities are carried out smoothly. The work requires the project holder to handle a varied workload, with an understanding of multicentre academic and clinical research collaborations, excellent attention to detail and confidentiality of data and other information. The ability to communicate the underlying medical and scientific rationale of the UK-REACH study to a wide professional audience is essential.
