About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Leicester Clinical Trials Unit’s team of statisticians as a specialist in cancer research.  You will split your time working between the Trials Unit and the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre. As an experienced statistician with a passion for cancer studies, you will provide support and direction to the growing portfolio of cancer clinical trials at the unit whilst providing statistical expertise to support experimental research within the Cancer Centre.

Leicester Clinical Trials Unit (LCTU), established in 2009 and fully registered as a UKCRC unit, has a portfolio of clinical trials in a wide range of clinical areas, including cardiovascular, respiratory, cancer, diabetes and mental health.  LCTU employs a multidisciplinary team including clinicians, statisticians, trial managers, quality officers, database developers, programmers and administrators.

Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) researchers are world-leading scientists and clinicians who drive the discovery, development and testing of new treatments to combat cancer. Leicester is one of 18 centres that form the national ECMC Network.  Our aim is to establish the Leicester Centre as a world leading Centre of Excellence delivering novel adaptive early phase clinical studies linked with translational and reverse translational research investigations in order to establish new treatment paradigms.

Medical Statisticians play a key role in the delivery of all aspects of conduct, analysis, reporting and interpretation of clinical research within the LCTU portfolio. You will work closely with Chief Investigators, colleagues within the LCTU team and other external collaborators to provide expert statistical input to the development of high quality clinical trials and delivery of high impact clinical trial output.

Joint funded by both the Leicester Clinical Trials Unit and Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre this position will be responsible for developing existing research in the cancer portfolio, building on existing collaborations and projects to expand research in this area.

About you

The successful candidate will have a post graduate degree in Medical Statistics and experience of working as a medical statistician in clinical trials. Experience of working in cancer clinical trials is desirable; however, an ability to demonstrate expertise in a range of quantitative research methods relevant to cancer research (e.g. survival analysis) is essential. Outstanding communication and problem solving skills are key in order to communicate complex issues to non-specialists.
