About the role

The Centre for International Training and Education (CITE) comprises the English Language Teaching Unit, the Study Abroad Unit, the International Professional Development Unit, and the Sanctuary Seekers Unit. It plays a key role in supporting international students and preparing them for study at the University of Leicester, as well providing a growing range of opportunities related to international education.

The English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU) of the University of Leicester is ranked as one of the leading departments of its kind in the UK, based on areas of strength identified by the British Council. Founded in the late 1980s, it offers an increasing range of courses and services, including pre-sessional and in-sessional programmes, credit bearing modules for exchange and Study Abroad students, short courses, teacher training and professional development. The ELTU provides teaching and support for thousands of international students and professionals each year, from a growing number of countries.

Part of a busy and friendly team, this role provides administrative support for a portfolio of courses within the ELTU, working closely with course directors, teaching staff and colleagues within the professional services team. The current focus of this role is principally administering insessional courses, which provide language and academic skills support for over 1,500 students while they undertake their degree courses. Activities will include promoting the courses, updating the course website, handling enquiries, registration and maintaining attendance data.

This is a student-facing role, providing daily support and guidance to students from many nationalities, both for insessional and other ELTU courses. Following the university’s WorkSmart initiative, the role will require three days a week to be spent on campus on a rota basis with remote working on the other two days.

About you

You will have excellent administration skills and prioritising workload will come as second nature to you. You will be organised, have meticulous attention to detail and a high level of communication skills. You will be able to build relationships, both within ELTU with teaching and administration staff alike, throughout CITE and across the university in departments such as Student Services, Student Records and the Future Students Office.

You will thrive in providing first class customer service, acting as a point of contact for current and prospective international students, providing a high level of support and displaying strong cultural awareness. Although able to work independently, you will also enjoy being a member of a team and will be able to show flexibility in supporting colleagues’ activities.

Due to the seasonal nature of the ELTU’s activity, the postholder will be expected to work throughout the summer months. It is also expected that the postholder will undertake occasional work outside office hours.
