About the role

We are looking for a Laboratory Teaching Fellow to join the School of Chemistry to support all teaching laboratory work within the School, advancing the quality and content of our practical education.

In this pivotal role you will work closely with academic and technical staff to ensure that laboratory practical delivery meets student needs (NSS), needs of future employers/supervisors (Employability) as well as the Royal Society of Chemistry (Accreditation of our degree). You will work as the interface between the academic design of the practical sessions and technical support and assistance in delivery.

The role involves responsibility for all aspects of the operational delivery of UG and PGT laboratory teaching, including the supervision of classes, allocation of activities within the technical team and wider demonstrators. You will also contribute to the professional development of such colleagues, and be responsible for the design and delivery of core training activities. In addition you will ensure appropriate documentation is maintained, and all health and safety and budgetary requirements are met. You will also contribute to the design of new laboratory experiments and will assist with the demonstration and supervision of laboratory work across the piece.

About you
You will be educated to PhD or postgraduate degree level in Chemistry with teaching experience in practical Chemistry. You will be able to demonstrate your technical and educational expertise in a laboratory environment and have knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and procedures in a chemistry context.

You'll be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, being able to work comfortably both in a team and independently. You will be able to work with minimal supervision, prioritising your own workload to deal with urgent tasks, while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail.
