This is an exciting opportunity to join the University of Leicester’s Medical School as an Associate Professor. You will be Lead Tutor for our Academic Support Unit, which supports students on our MB ChB degree.
Leicester Medical School is strongly committed to providing timely, effective and comprehensive support to its students and has dedicated Academic, Pastoral and Professionalism Support Teams.
As Lead Tutor for the Academic Support Unit you will work with a team of experienced medical educators, a number of whom are active NHS clinicians, to provide a range of individual and group academic support interventions for medical students.
The post holder will be responsible for the provision and delivery of academic support to students leading and working with the core team of academic support tutors:
- To provide appropriate, targeted and effective academic support and remediation to individual medical students experiencing academic failure or repeating a year for academic reasons and monitor/evaluate their success
- To deliver effective study skills interventions to groups of Phase 1 and Phase 2 students and evaluate their success
- To provide revision/remediation for groups of students post examination failure.
- To work with the Academic Support team, Pastoral Support and Phase Leads to develop and implement a strategy for student academic support
You will also contribute to teaching, including delivering lectures, small group teaching and practical classes and to assessment activity, including providing question/station material, standard setting and examining. You will act as a personal tutor to a group of students in the first 2 years of the MBChB and/or as Clinical Academic Tutor in the clinical years
You will draw on your academic excellence to underpin and carry out scholarship, teaching/assessment, enterprise, engagement, leadership & citizenship and administration in the field of Medical Education and within Leicester Medical School.
