About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate to join the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences within the University of Leicester. The department of Cardiovascular Sciences have an international reputation for excellence in cardiovascular research. Our work has had a major impact on the treatment of patients nationally and globally. With strong links with the NHS, as illustrated by the award of a National Institute for Health Research Biomedical Research Centre with a Cardiovascular Disease theme.

This role will focus on the Druggable-MI-genes consortium and is funded by a British Heart Foundation Special Project Grant. In this role, you will develop and carry out your own research whilst contributing as a team member to a wider research programme.

The research involves the functional characterisation of genetic variants linked to coronary artery disease and testing of new potential therapies using in vitro and in vivo models.

About you

We are seeking an outstanding candidate who holds a PhD in Genetics, Molecular Biology or related subject. You will have experience in standard techniques of molecular/cell biology and be able to demonstrate evidence of research productivity, for example, research publications in peer review journals and presentations. Candidates with experience of histology and in vivo model systems are encouraged to apply.
