About the role

We are looking for a Research Assistant to contribute to an exciting project focused on widening our understanding of why there appears to be an outcome difference for specific undergraduate assessment types in relation to the ethnic background of the student, and on understanding the reasons which underpin this trend.

Building on the ‘Decolonising the Curriculum Toolkit’ Pilot conducted by Dr Paul Campbell, this project evaluates the impact of the toolkit on BAME inclusion, in various undergraduate modules. The project aims to improve BAME student satisfaction about the course and module level, reduce the differences in assessment and award outcomes comparing BAME and white students and foster a stronger sense of relevance concerning module content and the lived realities and histories of our BAME sociology students.

As our Research Assistant, you will be working with selected schools at the University (through remote and/or face-to-face interviews and/or focus groups) to identify successful and inclusive practice and pedagogy, which underpins BAME inclusion and ‘higher-grade’ BAME student performance.

About you
Our ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in research and experience of collating, analysis and presenting qualitative data, as well as the ability to obtain and manage sensitive and confidential data and information and prioritise workloads successfully throughout their research.

A familiarity with current race, ethnicity and inclusion literature, practice and/or policy is essential to be successful in the role.

We look forward to receiving your application.
Additional information

The University is rich in the diversity of our students and we particularly welcome candidates from the BAME community.

For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Paul Campbell, School of Media, Communication and Sociology, email pc296@le.ac.uk

We anticipate that interviews will take place on 04 November 2020.

As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to professional development, this role will also be considered on a seconded basis for existing staff members. Please ensure this is discussed with your line manager prior to applying. More information regarding secondments can be found here.
