About the role

You will work on internationally collaborative projects in the University’s “Health Data research UK (HDR-UK)” facility, within the Brookes research team. You will be involved in shaping the technological and research activities of the group by working as part of inter-group teams. This will include contributing ideas and support to other members of the Brookes team and the wider HDR-UK members.

Appointment will be made as either Research Software Support Officer (grade 6) or Research Software Engineer (grade 7) depending on qualifications and experience. As a Research Software Engineer you will also have the opportunity to take forward sub-projects on your own and to work as part of international consortia. You will be involved in EU-wide informatics infrastructure projects and global-scale standards development work centred on genomics data and rare disease challenges.

About you

With a relevant biology or health related scientific degree you must have software development experience, knowledge of using SQL and no-SQL databases and demonstrable contributions to informatics/IT projects. 

To be considered for the role of Research Software Support Officer you will be in possession of or working towards an MSc in bioinformatics, computer science or similar or have equivalent experience.

To be considered for the role of Research Software Engineer you will need a good background in biomedical research or data integration and management along with holding or working towards a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science or similar or have equivalent experience. You must have experience of web application development technologies and the languages commonly used in the field.
