About the role

We are looking for a Research Associate in Geographical Information Science for Environmental Health to be based in the Centre for Environmental Health and Sustainability (CEHS) on the main University campus. CEHS is a new enterprise within the University of Leicester with the overarching aim to improve human health and the health of the environment through cutting edge multidisciplinary research. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to further their career using GIS and related technologies with a focus on relationships between environment and health.

You will use spatial databases and geographical information systems (GIS) to estimate environmental exposures, with a focus on environmental noise and air pollution. You may also be involved in assisting CEHS investigators with environmental and/or personal exposure measurements using portable sensors.

About you

You will need a PhD (or equivalent experience) in geographical information systems (GIS) or geographical information science (GI Sci), or in geography or environmental science, where GIS or GI Sci were a major component, or in exposure science or transport modelling, or a similar relevant discipline. You will also need experience of applying environmental models with large spatial databases and/or GIS. An excellent command of computers and experience in modifying and automating specialist GIS software (e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS) for analysis is required, as is use of statistical techniques to analyse data.

Ideally, you will have experience with environmental exposure data, noise and/or air pollution modelling, and network analysis, preferably in High-Performance Computing environments. Ideally you will have experience writing journal and conference papers.
