About the role

We are seeking applications by highly motivated postdoctoral candidates who are ready to lead a BBSRC funded project to discover novel genomic structures. The successful candidate will join a vibrant community of molecular biologists and biochemists at the University of Leicester and will be based in the research group of Dr Thomas Schalch, which has a long-standing interest in deciphering chromatin structure at high resolution.

The Leicester Institute for Structural and Chemical Biology (LISCB) is a centre of research excellence initiated by the University of Leicester. Aided by over £4m in investments in both equipment and new appointments, the research within LISCB targets fundamental questions in molecular biology through integrated structural approaches using state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography and biomolecular nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). This project is further supported by the NUCLEUS genomics facility at the University of Leicester and by the group of Prof. Oliver Rando at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

About you

You will take a leading role in developing and carrying out the research programme. The project will require strong skills in establishing strains and protocols for genomic analysis in yeast and potentially other organisms. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in genomics, biochemistry, molecular biology or a related discipline, experience in the field of chromatin, knowledge of yeast genetics and experience in next-generation sequencing and analysis. A high level of proficiency in English and excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills are essential requirements for this position.

Additional information

Informal enquiries are welcome and should made to Dr Thomas Schalch on +44 (0)116 229 7120 or thomas.schalch@leicester.ac.uk
