About the role

This exciting senior role in Leicester Medical School is for a highly motivated academic with a passion for undergraduate medical education to lead delivery of the phase 1 (years 1-2) of our recently transformed undergraduate medical course. You will work closely with the Head and Deputy Head of School and the Director of Clinical Studies (year 3-5, phase 2), whilst managing our Heads of Year (years 1-2), phase 1 unit leads, and co-managing the Head of Assessment (alongside our Director of Clinical Studies) to deliver our innovative year 1 and 2 curriculum for our growing Medical School.

You will have responsibility for developing and delivering the curriculum of years 1-2, where students gain extensive underpinning knowledge of biomedical, psychological and social sciences in our systems based curriculum and begin to develop their clinical skills and reasoning. Our course is pedagogically advanced in its approach to student learning with a real focus on small group learning (approximately half of all contact hours in phase 1) and our use of technology. You will oversee quality assurance (supporting our Quality Lead) for phase 1, have a desire to maintain and support excellence, whilst also actively seeking areas for development. You will work closely with our Assessment team to provide high quality formative and summative assessments across the full range of modalities from knowledge, to clinical practice as well as of our students’ professional performance. As an experienced medical educator you will provide guidance and support to our students whilst also taking a key role in our Health and Conduct Committee, handling those students struggling to manage, or engage with, our course.

You will be responsible for ensuring our curriculum is up-to-date and meets all regulatory requirements set by the GMC, our university and other relevant organisations, whilst also seeking to forge a course that remains innovative and inspiring so that we produce genuinely excellent doctors. You will have a strong and wide-ranging medical education background and experience of senior leadership within a University setting. As a member of the School’s Executive you will have a senior role in achieving our ambition to be a world-leading medical school, routinely within the top tier of UK Medical Schools.
