About the role
In this role you will lead and deliver the electronic aspects of the STAR (Space Technology Applications from Research) project using a variety of tools and software to aid industry on a wide range of artefacts and sectors including Life Sciences/Biotech, transport, space instrumentation, energy, Food and Drink and creative industry sectors.  You will provide technical electronics support in the project including electronics design, manufacture, operating the facilities, in support of the successful delivery of the ERDF outputs.
 
STAR (Space Technology Applications from Research) is a new high-tech research and development centre (part-funded by European Regional Development Fund) within the College of Science and Engineering and based on campus.  The STAR centre will provide design, electronic and 3D manufacturing expertise and technology demonstrations in composites, plastics and metals to SMEs in Leicester and Leicestershire to develop and enhance new products and material through Research and Innovation.  The dedicated high tech serviced facility offers a new and bespoke service to industry for design, testing, diagnostic, prototyping and manufacturing.
 
Working with the Business Manager you will build and maintain research, business and industry links and activity aligned with the University’s space and earth observation and engineering expertise. In addition you will assist the Academic leads, Business Manager and Project team to deliver the business plan, supporting qualifying SME’s and industry to become more innovative and as a result launch new products, services or new processes.

About you
With a good undergraduate degree in engineering electronic design or physical sciences, you will have competence in electronic design techniques for prototyping and manufacturing alongside extensive knowledge of electrical design tools and software used to deliver commercial and technical electrical designs and solutions.
 
As a self-starter with a keen eye for detail, you will have the ability to analyse and interpret complex data, giving your expert opinion to STAR clients and other team members.
