About the role

This post will be at the heart of the project, undertaking thermodynamic and process modelling aspects of the work, working with colleagues in the University of Sheffield on alloy design and development, and TWI on brazing process development.  There will also be significant industrial interactions with the project including many industrial partners, both as manufacturers and users of brazing alloys.

 

The School of Engineering at the University of Leicester is collaborating with Department of Materials at the University of Sheffield and TWI Ltd on a collaborative program funded by the UK’s Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC). The program will explore how new alloy design ideas, such as those from High Entropy Alloys (HEAs), can be applied to the development of brazing filler metals.  Brazing is a unique and industrially important joining technology, and the opportunities for meaningful advances being gained from developments made possible by modern alloy design approaches are considerable.  Exploration of HEAs for applications could lead to valuable knowledge for metal industries.

About you
You will have deep knowledge of materials and process modelling, and ideally a good appreciation of the brazing process and / or the state of the art with regard to High Entropy Alloys.  You will have numerical modelling experience, and the ability to work as part of a multi-institution team to meet the project goals.
