About the role

The University of Leicester is seeking a Lecturer (Teaching Focused) to join Leicester Medical School on a 12-month fixed-term contract, this full-time role offers the opportunity to make a significant contribution to medical education and the student experience. You will lead MD003 Principles of Anatomy and Physiology within the A199 Medicine with Foundation Year programme, co-lead the Year 1 Musculoskeletal System Unit within the MBChB, and act as Examination lead for the Integrated Understanding Practical Assessment (IUPA), a compulsory progression assessment for Year 2 medical students.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across Leicester Medical School and the wider University, you will plan, deliver and evaluate teaching, respond to student feedback and help provide an excellent learning experience. You will contribute to student support, employability and outreach activities, open days and effective admissions processes, while engaging with the academic discipline nationally and internationally and representing the School and University through external committees, reviews and panels. The University describes itself as a global community committed to teaching, research, widening access and enabling students and staff to flourish.

About you

You will hold either a PhD in a relevant discipline or a medical degree (MBChB or equivalent), and have experience of teaching and assessing undergraduate students, ideally within a medical education setting. You will have a strong understanding of anatomy and physiology, together with experience of delivering high-quality teaching and contributing to student assessment. You will be able to demonstrate your ongoing development as an educator alongside effective teaching, presentation, interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to teach through lectures, seminars and tutoring and to support, coach and mentor students and colleagues.

You will combine the ability to work independently with a collaborative approach, excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing a high-quality service to students. You will also demonstrate a strong commitment to equity and an awareness of diverse community issues. FHEA or equivalent recognition of teaching practice, educational research, recognition through publications or conference delivery in educational practice, and experience or understanding of online learning would be advantageous.
