About the role

The Lead for Written Assessment – Year 3 and 5 role offers an exciting opportunity to play a central part in delivering high-quality assessment within Leicester Medical School. You will lead the development, delivery and quality assurance of written assessments for Years 3 and 5 of the MB ChB programme, including Short Answer Question and Single Best Answer examinations, and will act as the local academic lead for the Medical Licensing Assessment Applied Knowledge Test. Working closely with academic colleagues, clinical specialists and the assessment team, you will help ensure assessments are rigorous, fair, aligned to the curriculum and reflective of the standards expected of future doctors.

You will contribute to assessment strategy, question bank development, standard setting, marking processes, examiner activities and continuous quality improvement across the programme. Supported by an experienced team of assessment experts, you will help shape an assessment culture that promotes excellence in medical education, supports student success and upholds patient safety.

About you

You will be a medically qualified doctor with full GMC registration and a licence to practise, holding or about to hold a consultant, specialist, associate specialist or GP role within a partner organisation involved in teaching Leicester medical students. You will bring experience of undergraduate or postgraduate medical education together with a strong interest in assessment and educational quality. Experience as an examiner in undergraduate medical assessments, excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues are essential for success in this role.

You will be enthusiastic about supporting the development of future doctors and committed to maintaining high standards in medical education. Experience in developing clinical assessments, educational leadership, teaching qualifications or fellowship recognition in medical education would be advantageous.
