About the role

Applicants are invited to apply for a Research Associate position at the Aerospace and Computational Engineering Research Group of the Department of Engineering of the University of Leicester. You will join the Advanced High Temperature Superconducting Materials and Power Systems Research Theme led by Dr Harold Ruiz, whose group is nationally and internationally recognized in the Applied Superconductivity Field.

The research is to be conducted to develop optimization tools onto the electromagnetic and thermal modelling of novel high temperature superconducting (HTS) and soft ferromagnetic (SFM) metastructures for their deployment in the power, medical and security sectors. The position will concentrate on modelling the macroscopical electromagnetic properties of HTS-SFM metastructures for magnetic shielding, cloaking, and ac loss reduction.

You will take a leading role in developing analytical and computational solutions aimed at reaching the goals of the research project, in collaboration and under the lead and mentoring of Dr Ruiz. You will collaborate with Dr Ruiz’s PhD students on the associated project, and to engage with industry stakeholders. In addition, you will be expected to participate in the general activities of the project consortium, to attend to project meetings and to relevant dissemination events within the UK and Internationally, to collaborate in the preparation of project reports, to submit publications to referred journals, and to engage with the seek for further research funding.

About you
To be successful in this role you will be a highly motivated individual with a PhD degree in a relevant subject and a multidisciplinary approach (Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Computer Science). You will have a strong knowledge of the materials properties and applications of High Temperature Superconducting materials, with a solid background and extensive skills on the numerical and/or analytical modelling of superconducting devices. A record of experience in the dissemination of research results for publications in peer-reviewed Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics Journals is desirable.
