About the role

Are you an organised, practical and customer-focused technician with experience of supporting teaching, research or field-based activities?
We are looking for a Technician to join our Technical & Research Infrastructure Services team, supporting the teaching and research activities of the School of Heritage and Culture. This varied role will involve supporting laboratory teaching, open-access facilities, fieldwork activities and specialist equipment, with a particular focus on geomatics and geophysical survey facilities.

Working closely with academic staff, students and fellow technicians, you will prepare facilities and equipment for teaching sessions, provide technical guidance to users, maintain equipment and records, support fieldwork activities, and help ensure that laboratories and field environments operate safely and effectively. You will also contribute to research support activities, assist with procurement and stock management, and play an active role in maintaining high standards of health and safety.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with technical or scientific training and experience within archaeology, heritage, fieldwork or a related environment to contribute to both teaching and research activities in a supportive and collaborative setting

About you

You will have:
  • Technical or scientific education to ONC, NVQ3 level or equivalent.
  • Experience working within archaeology or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of laboratory and fieldwork best practice and health and safety requirements.
  • Experience of working with suppliers and procuring equipment and consumables.
  • Experience of supporting safe systems of work, including COSHH procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support staff and students effectively.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines.
  • The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
  • A commitment to the University's values of being inclusive, inspiring and impactful.
Experience of geomatics and geophysical survey, archaeological fieldwork, a degree in archaeology or a related subject, and a current UK driving licence would be advantageous
