About the role
We are looking for a Department Technician to join the department of Genetics and Genome Biology. In this role you will assist in day-to-day supervision of a large laboratory complex comprising of a busy genetics laboratory and ancillary areas. You will:
 
  • Provide technical support to the academic groups in this lab complex (3 research groups).
  • Be responsible for maintaining a large proportion of the Departments Drosophila stocks, in
    conjunction with the academic lead and the senior Drosophila technician, for use in the Departments
    research and in teaching.
  • Provide technical support for the Genetics programme of undergraduate and postgraduate practical
    modules.
  • Manage the Departmental gas store and other Departmental resources as and when required.
About you

To be successful in this role you will have technical or scientific education to ONC or NVQ 3 level and prior relevant technical work experience. You will also have a thorough understanding of relevant laboratory health and safety regulations. Ideally you will have experience of insect husbandry, a range of molecular biology techniques and experience of organising and delivering undergraduate practical modules. 

You'll be a strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills, being able to work comfortably both in a team and independently.With your proactive approach to work you will manage your own time on a day to day basis while having a flexible attitude to adapt to changing priorities.With your proactive approach to work you will manage your own time on a day to day basis while having a flexible attitude to adapt to changing priorities.
