About the role

We are seeking a motivated Research Assistant to join the Leicester Centre for Exercise and Rehabilitation (CERS) within the Department of Respiratory Sciences. Based primarily at the Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit at Glenfield Hospital, you will contribute to an exciting collaborative project with Loughborough University investigating novel diagnostic approaches for the assessment of breathing pattern disorder. This role offers an excellent opportunity to be involved in clinically focused research that has the potential to improve assessment and treatment pathways for patients with respiratory conditions. The post is based at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, with frequent travel to Loughborough University, who are leading the project, for training and support.

Working closely with academic and clinical colleagues, you will support participant recruitment, undertake physiological and physical function testing, maintain clinical research records in accordance with Good Clinical Practice standards, and analyse breathing pattern data using Qualisys motion capture technology (Optoelectronic plethysmography). You will contribute to the day-to-day delivery of the project, participate in research meetings, support dissemination activities, and assist with the preparation of peer-reviewed publications and other research outputs. The role involves regular collaboration with colleagues at Loughborough University and, due to the clinical nature of the work, will be predominantly campus and site based.

About you

You will hold an honours degree in a relevant discipline, or possess equivalent experience, together with practical experience of applying research methodologies and techniques to deliver high-quality outcomes. You should have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of research practice. Experience of Good Clinical Practice, or the willingness to obtain certification, is essential, while experience of statistical analysis, motion capture systems, postgraduate study, or clinical research environments would be advantageous.

As a collaborative and enthusiastic researcher, you will be able to organise and prioritise your workload effectively while working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
