About the role

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the School of Psychology and Vision Sciences at the University of Leicester, supporting the NIHR-funded ‘Uncertain-T’ study. This innovative project focuses on developing and evaluating a novel psychological intervention to reduce post-traumatic stress symptoms in stroke survivors. Working under the guidance of the project lead, you will contribute to a wide range of research activities, including participant recruitment, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, study coordination, and Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and knowledge mobilisation initiatives.

This role offers a valuable opportunity to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, collaborating with academic colleagues, external partners, and NHS organisations across the UK. You will be based on campus during standard office hours, with regular travel required to support data collection at NHS sites.

About you

You will hold an undergraduate degree (minimum 2:1 or equivalent) in psychology or a relevant healthcare discipline, with experience of conducting or supporting research or clinical activities involving patients, service users, or other vulnerable groups. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage sensitively with individuals who may be experiencing distress or communication difficulties, alongside experience of applying quantitative and qualitative research methods and undertaking literature reviews. A commitment to Good Clinical Practice standards, ethical research conduct, and continued professional development is essential.

We are looking for a reliable, motivated and organised individual who thrives in collaborative environments and can build effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders. You will demonstrate excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, strong digital skills, and a clear commitment to inclusive, high-quality research that delivers meaningful benefits for patients and healthcare services. This role is particularly well suited to candidates aspiring to progress to doctoral study or a professional career in psychology or healthcare research.
