About the role

The University of Leicester is seeking a part-time Sample Technician to join the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences on a fixed-term basis. Working within the Non-Adherence Group (NAG) and the van Geest MultiOmics Facility, you will support sample preparation, analysis, and laboratory operations for studies focused on medication adherence using advanced mass spectrometry techniques. You will contribute to the processing of large cohorts of biological samples, including plasma, serum, and urine, and assist in running analytical workflows under the guidance of experienced researchers.

You will play an important role in maintaining laboratory equipment, preparing assays, and supporting data collection and method development. This includes operating LC-MS/MS and related platforms, contributing to accurate record-keeping, and assisting with the smooth day-to-day functioning of the laboratory. The role involves collaboration with colleagues across the University and healthcare partners, supporting a dynamic research environment that reflects the University’s commitment to impactful and inclusive innovation.

About you

You will have a technical or scientific background, with practical experience in bioscience laboratories and familiarity with handling biological samples such as blood and urine. Experience using mass spectrometry systems is essential, along with a sound understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures. You will be confident in following technical instructions, preparing solutions and standards, and contributing to data processing and documentation with accuracy and care.

You are well organised, able to manage your workload effectively, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach are key, as you will engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will also demonstrate behaviours aligned with the University of Leicester’s values of being inclusive, inspiring and impactful, and uphold our commitment to equity, diversity, and academic freedom, ensuring all candidates and colleagues are treated fairly and with respect in line with the Higher Education Freedom of Speech Act 2023.
