About the role

We are seeking two talented Research Associates in Chemistry. Working within an international research collaboration led by Professor Sergey Piletsky as part of the EU Genesis project, you will focus on the design and study of molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) nanoparticles with specificity for PFAS molecules, alongside their application in electrochemical sensors. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a large-scale European research initiative involving multiple partners, while advancing innovative approaches within polymer and analytical chemistry.

You will take a leading role in both laboratory and project-based activity, contributing to research outputs including publications, reports, and conference presentations. The position involves supporting students, laboratory management, and engaging with collaborators both within the University and internationally. You will also contribute to research planning, proposal development, and the wider dissemination of findings, helping to strengthen the impact and profile of the research group.

About you

You will hold a PhD in polymer chemistry, analytical chemistry, or a closely related discipline, and demonstrate a strong track record in molecularly imprinted polymers, including their synthesis and characterisation. Experience with electrochemical or spectroscopic techniques, alongside broader expertise in polymerisation chemistry and nanotechnology, will be essential. You will also bring evidence of contributing to peer-reviewed publications and be capable of developing novel techniques within a research environment.

You will be an effective communicator with excellent written and verbal English, able to convey complex ideas clearly to a range of audiences. With the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, you will contribute positively to a research team while supporting the development of others through mentoring and supervision. A proactive approach to building collaborations and advancing your own professional development will enable you to make a meaningful contribution to this internationally connected research environment.
