About the role

We are seeking an ambitious and collaborative academic to join the Department of Cancer Sciences as a Lecturer (Teaching and Research). This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the University of Leicester's strategic themes of world-changing research, research-inspired education and citizenship through a balanced portfolio of teaching, research and wider university engagement. The post is based in Leicester and has a strong international dimension through our partnership with the Chongqing Medical University Joint Educational Institute (JEI).

You will lead and deliver teaching on modules within the MSc Cancer Cell and Molecular Biology programme, supporting both undergraduate and postgraduate education. As part of this role, you will contribute to teaching delivery in the People's Republic of China as University of Leicester faculty, spending up to 16 weeks per year at Chongqing Medical University. Alongside your teaching responsibilities, you will undertake high-quality research within the Division of Cancer Sciences and the Leicester Cancer Research Centre, with a particular focus on areas that support the personalisation of cancer prevention, detection and therapy. You will be expected to develop a strong publication profile, attract external funding, supervise postgraduate researchers and build collaborations both within the UK and internationally.

About you

You will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline and have expertise in translational cancer research, cancer genomics, bioinformatics and/or computational biology. You will have a developing record of internationally recognised research outputs, clear plans for the future development of your research programme and experience of securing or contributing to external funding. You will also have experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, including practical laboratory-based teaching, and a commitment to delivering an outstanding student experience.

As an excellent communicator, you will be able to build productive relationships with colleagues, students and external partners, working effectively both independently and as part of a team. You will demonstrate a commitment to inclusivity, equity and academic excellence, alongside the ability to inspire and support students and early career researchers.
