About the role

The University of Leicester is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching Focused) to join the School of Psychology and Vision Sciences on a full‑time, fixed‑term basis to cover maternity leave. The postholder will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across psychology programmes, designing, developing and delivering high‑quality teaching and assessment in line with programme and quality standards. You will play an active role in curriculum development and learning and teaching innovation, supporting an excellent student experience and contributing to performance in the National Student Survey and Teaching Excellence Framework.
 
You will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects, provide academic and pastoral support, and act as a Personal Tutor in accordance with the University’s Code of Practice. The role also offers opportunities to engage in pedagogical and/or psychological research, share expertise across the School, College and University, and contribute to the wider academic community through scholarly activity, conferences and professional engagement. Duties are flexibly organised and allocated by the Head of School to support both individual strengths and School priorities.

About you

You will have completed, or be close to completing, a PhD in a relevant subject area and will bring expertise that complements and strengthens the School’s existing provision. You will have experience of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, with evidence of excellent student outcomes and positive feedback, and a clear commitment to student‑centred learning. You will demonstrate the ability to design and deliver engaging teaching across a range of formats, including face‑to‑face, remote and distance learning, and to assess student work to a high standard.
 
You will be committed to the ongoing development of your teaching practice and to maintaining high professional standards, including holding, or working towards, Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or an equivalent qualification. With strong communication and interpersonal skills, you will work effectively with colleagues and students from diverse backgrounds, contribute positively to the academic community, and uphold the University of Leicester’s values of inclusivity, inspiration and impact, while supporting academic freedom and freedom of speech within the law.
