About the role

Are you passionate about protein biology and looking to contribute to cutting-edge phage research? We are seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Research Technician (Protein) to join the dynamic team at the Becky Mayer Centre for Phage Research, part of the Department of Genetics, Genomics and Cancer Sciences at the University of Leicester.

You will play a key role in a pioneering research programme focused on the isolation, purification, and characterisation of novel phage proteins, working closely with the Senior Postdoctoral Research Fellow and a collaborative academic team. Your responsibilities will include performing specialised laboratory experiments, supporting method development, maintaining a safe and efficient lab environment, and contributing to knowledge exchange through presentations and conferences.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a forward-thinking and inclusive environment where your technical expertise will directly contribute to impactful scientific discovery.

About you

You will have a technical or scientific qualification at BSc, HNC, NVQ4 level or equivalent experience, and a strong background in protein biology, with substantial laboratory experience in protein purification, molecular biology, and microbiological techniques. Experience with category 2 bacterial pathogens and a sound understanding of Health and Safety protocols are essential.

You’ll bring strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and be confident providing guidance, training, and support to others in the lab. Experience with multiple cloning methods (e.g., Golden Gate, Gibson) and familiarity with genomic data or basic bioinformatics tools will be an advantage.

If you are a proactive team player, enthusiastic about research innovation and continuous professional development, we would love to hear from you.

Join us in shaping the future of bacteriophage research—apply now and become a part of our mission to make a global impact.
