About the role

An informal evening briefing for interested applicants will be held via Microsoft Teams Live on Wednesday 17th December at 7:00 pm. Attendees will be anonymous. Those interested in learning more about the responsibilities of the role and what it will entail are invited to contact Professor Christian French on [email protected] to be added to the attendance list.

We are seeking a dedicated Lecturer in Optometry to join our School of Healthcare and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our innovative Optometry programme. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of a class-leading course that meets the needs of students, employers and regulatory bodies. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the programme reflects our ethos of research-inspired education and delivers an outstanding student experience.

In this teaching-focused role, you will design and implement high-quality, engaging learning materials, provide excellent student support, and contribute to the continuous enhancement of our curriculum. You will also have the opportunity to develop your scholarly profile and engage in activities that strengthen our impact within the University and the wider community.

About you

You will hold a degree in Optometry or a closely related subject and be registered with the General Optical Council as an Optometrist, Dispensing Optician or Contact Lens Optician. A recognised teaching qualification, such as Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or equivalent), or a commitment to achieve this within a set timeframe, is essential. You will bring experience of delivering high-quality teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, alongside a strong commitment to student success and inclusivity.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are vital, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. You will demonstrate a passion for inspiring students, a commitment to equity and diversity, and the ability to contribute to the development of innovative teaching practices.
