About the role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled research assistant to work with Professor Galina Mukamolova (Department of Respiratory Sciences) and Dr Amanda Chaplin (Department of Molecular Cell Biology) at the University of Leicester for a BBSRC funded project focused on investigation of non-homologous end joining DNA double stand break repair mechanism in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The Research Assistant will work with post-doctoral research associate to generate mycobacterial mutants and characterise their phenotypes in several in vitro models.
About you

We are looking for a motivated individual with a strong background in molecular biology and microbiology. The ideal candidate will have an Honours degree and/or relevant experience in a related field, with practical experience in applying research skills and techniques to deliver high-quality outputs. Experience in genetic manipulation, molecular work, and bacterial viability assessment is essential, along with an awareness of laboratory safety.

The successful candidate will demonstrate research potential and enthusiasm for the subject, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. They will be a team player with excellent written and verbal communication abilities, capable of prioritising tasks within agreed work schedules and committed to continuous professional development. A willingness to participate in workshops and conferences to support the dissemination of research findings is also expected.
