About the role
We are looking for an ambitious and creative researcher for a position of Research Associate in Applied Mathematics. The post is funded by the Horizon Europe project Past-To-Future. This is a large-scale EU funded project involving over 20 partners across Europe and beyond. The project delves into the investigation of climate variability, and especially tipping points, of the last 3 million years. 

You will conduct work in the broad theme “Mathematics of Planet Earth”, and especially in scientific areas like critical transitions, response of the climate system to perturbations; metastability and long transients, climate modelling; machine learning applied to climate research. You will be embedded in a world-class and rapidly growing research environment and will have the possibility to interact with multiple academic partners in the UK and overseas. In addition, it is expected that you will support graduate students, deliver scientific presentation of the obtained results in international conferences, and contribute to the preparation of reports and scientific publications. Contributing to teaching activities is encouraged.
About you
With a PhD in mathematics, physics, earth sciences, or a related discipline alongside strong knowledge of mathematical modelling and data analysis methods for complex systems, you will have advanced understanding of climate dynamics and/or ecosystem dynamics. Research experience in these areas is essential. 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required, evidenced by the ability to convey complex information effectively. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to continuous professional development for themselves and others.
