About the role

The Project LIGHT Coordinator is a unique and impactful role within the Leicester Medical School, supporting the Leicester Initiative Good Health Team (Project LIGHT). Established in 2010, this initiative is a staff-student partnership embedded in the core medical curriculum and offers extracurricular opportunities for students from other schools. Project LIGHT provides students with placements in statutory and non-statutory services and opportunities to volunteer with local charities to deliver health support to homeless populations.

In this role, you will coordinate between academic leads, placement partners, student volunteers, and host charities. Your work will involve essential administrative tasks, including scheduling volunteer placements, maintaining a database of active volunteers, and ensuring smooth communication with charities. In addition to administrative duties, you will mentor students, building and nurturing relationships that support their development and the success of Project LIGHT’s outreach efforts. Your contributions will ensure the continued impact and operational success of Project LIGHT, as well as enrich the student experience in line with the University’s values.

About you

The ideal candidate for this role will possess substantial experience in a similar administrative setting. You will have a strong customer service ethos and be skilled in managing databases, with a good understanding of IT, including spreadsheets and word processing. Familiarity with external stakeholder engagement and experience in providing administrative support in a busy environment is essential.

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are crucial, as you will be supporting students, liaising with charities, and assisting academic staff. You will have an eye for detail and the ability to manage your workload autonomously, prioritising tasks to meet deadlines effectively. Experience in an educational setting or with university systems is advantageous but not essential. Above all, you will demonstrate flexibility, independence, and a commitment to the values of inclusivity, inspiration, and impact that underpin the University of Leicester’s mission.
