About the role

We are seeking a motivated Research Technician to join the Department of Respiratory Sciences at the University of Leicester. This role offers an excellent opportunity to support essential research within the Respiratory Cytology Laboratory. You will primarily be based at the Glenfield Hospital campus, with some cross-site working at the main university campus.

Your responsibilities will include processing routine samples such as sputum, blood, and urine for clinical diagnostics and trials, ensuring adherence to GCP standards. You will also support clinical trials by managing sample shipments and tracking. In addition, you will work in collaboration with the Histology Laboratory, contributing to tissue sectioning, antibody preparation, and quality control of data. This position will involve handling and maintaining laboratory equipment and reagents and contributing to the preparation of data for presentation and publication.

About you

You will have previous laboratory experience and familiarity with cytology and microbiology techniques, including sputum processing, is essential. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), tissue tracking systems, and laboratory safety procedures is also required. Experience with immunological or histological techniques would be an advantage, as would a relevant scientific degree.

We are looking for someone with strong communication and organisational skills, capable of working both independently and as part of a team. You should be proficient in using specialist software, with good IT skills, and be familiar with health and safety regulations. If you are keen to contribute to impactful respiratory research and have the necessary skills, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity at the University of Leicester.
