About the role

The post-holder will be based within the Centre for Phage Research at the University of Leicester.

Bacteriophages, or phages, are viruses that attack bacterial cells and offer the potential as new therapeutics as alternatives to antimicrobials. Synthetic or genetic engineered phages offer the potential for customized delivery of effectors to target bacteria. The aim of the project is to genetically engineer a bacteriophage infecting Salmonella spp to carry an additional gene cargo. The work will involve the the genetic manipulation of a bacteriophage infecting Salmonella spp and subsequently isolate, purify and scale up the production of genetically modified bacteriophages.

You should have a technical or scientific education to ONC or NVQ3 level, along with previous laboratory experience working with bacteriophages and pathogenic bacteria. A solid background in molecular biology, genetic manipulation, and phage research is essential. Experience with genomic data and bioinformatics tools will be beneficial.

We are looking for someone with strong laboratory skills, including PCR and DNA extraction, and good IT skills for data management and analysis. Excellent communication and organisational abilities are required to work flexibly and meet project deadlines.
