About the role

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Teaching Fellow in Physics and Astronomy to join our School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester. This role is ideal for individuals who wish to contribute to the academic development of undergraduate students, focusing on teaching and supervising experimental and applied physics modules. The role can be undertaken as a job share or by several postdoctoral researchers, with the final arrangement determined during the recruitment process.

Your primary responsibilities will include delivering lectures, seminars, and laboratory classes, supervising student projects, and providing both academic and pastoral support. You will ensure that the teaching meets the high standards expected within a research-led university, maintaining a broad and up-to-date knowledge of the field. In addition, you will be involved in academic duties such as setting examination papers, marking, and reviewing modules. This role also requires engagement in continuous professional development and contribution to the School's commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

About you

You should hold a PhD and/or have a strong postdoctoral research track record in a field relevant to physical science or engineering. Experience in teaching within a Higher Education environment is essential, with a proven ability to deliver a range of teaching methods including lectures, laboratory classes, and one-to-one or group project supervision.

We are looking for candidates with excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working flexibly within a team and engaging students effectively. A high level of proficiency in English, both written and verbal, is required to fulfil the teaching and administrative responsibilities of the role.

A commitment to continuous professional development is important, and candidates who hold or are working towards a recognised teaching qualification (such as Fellow of the Higher Education Academy) will be at an advantage. Additionally, involvement with professional bodies, such as the Institute of Physics, is desirable.

If you are enthusiastic about teaching and committed to supporting the academic and personal development of students, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity to contribute to the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester.
