About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Fellow in Mathematics to join the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Leicester, including supporting our partner site in Dalian, China. This role focuses on delivering high-quality teaching, administration, and student support across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

You will play a crucial role in shaping the learning experience of our students by planning, organising, and delivering a range of teaching activities. These may include lectures, problem classes, workshops, tutorials, and project supervision. The role also involves supervising student research projects, providing academic mentoring, and delivering assessment and feedback to foster student engagement and independent learning.

Beyond teaching, you will contribute to the continuous development and review of our curriculum, ensuring that it meets the highest academic standards and aligns with the needs of our students and the latest developments in the field. You will also be involved in scholarship activities related to teaching, engaging in professional practice and knowledge exchange to ensure that our students gain cutting-edge knowledge and skills.

Within this role, you will also undertake teaching, tutoring and administrative duties across a range of modules, particularly in the delivery of teaching modules in China that are part of the Department’s collaborative partnership programmes in the People’s Republic of China.

Why work at the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences?

About you

You will hold a good first degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related subject, and have experience in teaching or training within an academic or similar environment. A PhD (or be close to completing one) in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline is required, or equivalent relevant experience in the field.

We are looking for candidates who have a proven ability to teach at the university level, with strong written and verbal communication skills and a high level of proficiency in English. Your interpersonal skills will enable you to promote professional and inclusive interactions with students, both within and beyond the classroom. Additionally, you should be capable of working flexibly within a team and committed to enhancing equality, diversity, and inclusivity in the workplace.

Experience in developing and using digital teaching materials and the ability to supervise projects and mentor small teams of students would be advantageous. Membership of a professional body and/or evidence of activity within such bodies is desirable, as is a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) or a willingness to obtain this.

If you are passionate about teaching and eager to contribute to a dynamic and forward-thinking academic community, we encourage you to apply.
