About the role

The University’s ‘People Strategy’ outlines ambitious plans to enhance the professional lives of our staff and aligns with the University Strategy, ‘Our Citizens’. This sets out a number of ambitious plans to improve the working lives of our staff. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in driving these initiatives forward and become integral to our community of change-makers, the Citizens of Change.

We are seeking an experienced Senior HR Advisor to provide comprehensive HR support and guidance to our Professional Services Divisions. Your responsibilities will encompass managing complex cases, as well as leading and supporting key strategic projects to ensure timely and effective outcomes. This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, with a minimum of three days per week on campus.

About you

The ideal candidate will possess a CIPD Level 7 qualification or equivalent, coupled with a degree-level education. You should have substantial recent experience as a Senior HR Advisor within a large and complex organisation that engages with trade unions. Our university operates within a matrix management structure, requiring familiarity with intricate governance and regulatory frameworks. Your background should ideally include senior level HR advisory roles in comparable settings, such as other Higher Education institutions, the NHS, or local government.

A robust understanding of employment law and its practical application in day-to-day operations is essential. You should excel in advising, coaching, and supporting line managers across a spectrum of employee relations matters, including disciplinary procedures, grievance handling, performance management, and organisational change initiatives.
